OUR NAME

Amarajavadar

The name "Amar Ahava Dar" combines three words: "ahava" (Hebrew for love), "amar" (Spanish for love), and "dar" (Spanish for give). In Hebrew, "ahava" contains the root "hav," meaning "to give," emphasizing the connection between love and giving. We altered "ahava" by replacing the H with a J to reflect a Spanish sound, adding a personal touch. This name captures our mission as philanthropists and humanists to give back as much as we love the impact of our work. Loving and giving are central to our organization's goals and legacy.

To love. To give.

Our Purpose

Our goal is to explore alternatives for neurodiverse learning to meet the gap where learning departs from typical or traditional to become experience-driven opportunities attuned to meet the specific learning needs of every neurodivergent learner.

Our Mission

Our mission is to collaborate to bring awareness of the diverse styles of learning, facilitate alternative learning approaches and create learning experiences that make space for a diverse pool of learners.

Our Vision

Our vision is that learning is an innate, unique ability shaped by diverse styles. Embracing this diversity transforms learning into personalized experiences that highlight individual strengths, enabling each learner to master new skills in their own way.

Our Story

Our story began in 2009 when I worked with struggling English as a Second Language learners, using art and alternative strategies to transform their academic experience and my teaching approach. I realized that learning struggles often stem from how we learn, not what we learn. This became even more personal when I left teaching to support my Autistic child, who didn’t fit traditional learning settings.

After Hurricane Maria, we started a nonprofit to advocate for alternative learning for individuals like my son. In 2021, when I was diagnosed with cancer, we realized how few resources exist for neurodivergent learners. Our current efforts aim to open a learning center that offers this experience to every learner, especially to those on the neurodivergence spectrum of learning needs, while it delves into research about the learning styles in this population.  Our story reflects the struggle of many families seeking better support for diverse learners in a rapidly changing world. We dream of making this center a place for freedom in learning, nurturing neurodivergence, embracing neurodiversity, providing inclusion, apprenticeship and mentoring to every kind of learner.
